Math
During GAP Work Time, the first graders work in small groups. Each day, they rotate to a new Math task.
We are focusing on place value during Math. The first graders are learning to represent double-digit numbers with base-10 blocks and quick draws. They are also learning to write each number in the expanded equation form.
The first graders are learning to compare double-digit numbers using the greater than symbol (>), the less than symbol (<) and the equal symbol (=).
Literacy Choices

Alexa listens to Caiti read a story. It must be a good one. Look at those smiles!!! |

Word Work
Word Sort - Students sorted words into categories (land animals & water animals). Then, they added their own
animal choices to each category. During Literacy Choices, many students are creating their own word sorts.
We read each word and clapped out the syllables. The words were then sorted by the number of syllables.
